Pledge for Nature, Health and Climate Action in Our Borough

Dear Candidate,

As local residents and community groups working to improve nature, health and climate outcomes in our borough, we are inviting all election candidates to commit to the following practical, deliverable pledges if elected.

We ask you to confirm whether you are willing to support strong leadership and commitment within the council on the following key issues:

  1. Provide six-monthly updates on carbon emission reduction progress towards carbon neutrality by 2030.

  2. Back interventions that prioritise reduced air pollution in the borough. Includes achieving a reduction in traffic by 45% by 2030, compared to 2015.

  3. Establish a knowledgeable Conservation Unit for the borough.

  4. Stop using glyphosate in our streets (current contract ends 28th February 2027).

  5. Improve and track the survival rate of newly planted trees in streets and parks to 95% over the next two years.

  6. Back fuel poverty initiatives. Provide 50% of all Greenwich residents with information on how to heat their homes efficiently by the end of 2028.

Coordination and transparency

We are coordinating this pledge with other community and civil society campaigns ahead of the elections, and will publish a list of candidates who have signed to help inform voters.

We welcome your response and thank you for taking the time to consider these pledges.

Yours sincerely,

GGCN
